how much tiki cat to feed my cat

So, I’ve been trying to figure out this whole “how much Tiki Cat to feed my cat” thing. It’s a bit of a maze, honestly. My cat, Whiskers, is a bit of a chunk, weighing in at around 12 pounds, and I want to make sure I’m not overfeeding or underfeeding the little guy.

First off, I started by looking at the Tiki Cat feeding guidelines. Seems like they recommend about 2 cans a day for a cat around 7 pounds. My Whiskers is almost double that, so I figured I’d have to up the amount.

  • Checked out what some folks online were saying. Some were feeding their cats, like, 1 1/2 cans per pound of body weight if they’re kittens. Whiskers is no kitten, so that didn’t really apply.
  • Found this other guideline saying 1/4 to 1/2 cup for a 4-7 pound cat, 1/2 to 3/4 cup for an 8-10 pounder, and 3/4 to 1 cup for an 11-15 pound cat. That seemed more in line with what I was looking for.

Then I stumbled upon some info about Tiki Cat Raw, which is all about feeding cats raw meat. Sounds interesting, but I’m not sure I’m ready to go full carnivore with Whiskers just yet. Maybe one day.

My Experiment

So, based on all this, I decided to start with around 1 cup of Tiki Cat per day for Whiskers. I split it into two meals, one in the morning and one at night. I mean they recommend two 5.5 cans per day, which is about 130 calories, that’s too much for my Whiskers.

  • Monitored Whiskers’ weight and energy levels. He seemed pretty happy and playful, and his weight stayed about the same, which is what I was aiming for.
  • Adjusted the amount slightly based on his activity level. On days when he was more active, I might’ve given him a little extra. On lazy days, I kept it at the usual amount.

Honestly, it’s been a bit of trial and error. But I think I’ve finally got it down. Whiskers seems to be thriving on this amount, and I feel good knowing I’m feeding him something that’s supposedly pretty good for him.

It’s all about finding that sweet spot, you know? Every cat is different, so what works for Whiskers might not work for your furry friend. But hopefully, my little experiment can give you a starting point. Just remember to keep an eye on your cat’s weight and energy, and adjust accordingly. And don’t be afraid to experiment a little – that’s how you figure out what works best!
